Dr. Lynch – Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, University of Virginia

Lecture on Neurobiology of Addiction.  In this lecture, Dr. Lynch will discuss the molecular basis for drug addiction at each of the different phases of the addiction process focusing predominantly on psychostimulant drug addiction. How each of these phases is simulated in animals will also be discussed.  The lecture will be followed by a literature discussion (one participant will be asked to volunteer the presentation of an assigned article; the article and background reading will be distributed before the class).

Dr. Lynch – Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, University of Virginia, University of Virginia

Seminar on Modeling Addiction in Animals. In this seminar, Dr. Lynch will use studies from her lab to demonstrate how to model the development of addiction in animals.  (This seminar can be open to the public).

June 28, 2016

9:00 – 11:30 a.m.

综合楼701

Dr. Lynch – Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobehavioral Sciences, University of Virginia, University of Virginia

Lecture on Exercise as an Intervention for Drug Addiction.  In this lecture, Dr. Lynch will present evidence from preclinical and clinical studies for the efficacy of exercise at different phases of the addiction process focusing on psychostimulant addiction. The neurobiological mechanisms underlying the efficacy of exercise at reducing vulnerability to addiction will also be discussed focusing on dopaminergic and glutamatergic signaling in the reward pathway, signaling pathways critically involved in addiction, as well as long-term epigenetic-regulated changes in this brain region. The lecture will be followed by a literature discussion (one participant will be asked to volunteer the presentation of the assigned article; the article and background reading will be distributed before the class).
